Concept and realization of the signage system for the Diploma Exhibition 2020 at HGB Leipzig in collaboration with Barbara Galizia.
FOLLOW THE COLOR is a non-hierarchical system to guide the visitors through building and exhibition. Everybody relates differently to colors, colors evoke emotions and it is easy to enter the space of personal perception. By equipping every single visitor with a decoding tool, it is possible to navigate the exhibition autonomously. The overview plan is a large vinyl installation taking over the building’s centre, and expanding on the floors of the entire institution.
The patio of HGB Leipzig serves both as architectural centre and base of the signage system. Visitors enter the patio right from the entrance and are able to overview the artists’ names and their assigned colors. The installation is also visible from the first and second floor.
The visitors receive a color fan as a navigation tool, the colors are not named but replaced by the names of the exhibitors. Arrows shaped in reference to the cut off edges of the color bubbles guide the visitor through the building. A star shape consisting out of four arrows marks the entry to the exhibition space.
