Books open up worlds—but for whom? The design of print media is usually based on a non-disabled norm. In our workshop series, we work together with designers—both disabled and non-disabled—and other interested individuals to explore new artistic, experimental, and playful approaches to accessible book design.
Based on Sins Invalid’s “10 Principles of Disability Justice,” we aim to expand existing design approaches from an artistic perspective and discover or invent new, sensory approaches to book design, translation, and readability. In doing so, we work with various analog materials and techniques (clay, textiles, paper, embossing, collage, printing), as well as online, to test hierarchies and boundaries and to expand our own expertise. We work with the 10 Principles, translated into German Plain language.
We hope for an open, curious atmosphere and a spirit of mutual support. The goal is to learn together and from one another. No ability is better or worse than another. All people hold equal inherent worth, despite vast differences in skills and talents
