BASED ON GATHERING is an initiative centering collective care as a form and foundation of artistic practice.
We understand gathering as a method of holding—of creating spaces for the collective and the collected to (co)exist. In doing so, we question how knowledge is produced and seek to make these processes both more transparent and visible. We tend to the soil left by those who came before us and ask curiously: what might take root here next? How can we continue to grow together?
Allyship is created through connection. That is why we need places where encounters are possible at a low threshold and where we can learn from each other organically. In playful and process-oriented research, we examine how care can be a form of artistic practice and how we can establish and cultivate it within individualistic, neoliberal structures.
On a material, social, artistic level we are actively considering:
How can we make spaces accessible?
How do we want to build relationships with each other? How can cultural work be sustainable and function without exploitation and the pressure to perform?
How can we shift from the individual to a policy of caring, exchanging and sharing that has a lasting impact on all aspects of life?
