Viewing the viewing: In the new publication INS SCHAUEN VERTIEFT – HELFRIED STRAUß UND DIE HGB by the Institute of Book Art, edited by Jörn Lies and Christoph Türcke, Strauß' photographs of exhibition and examination situations, work meetings and everyday university life at the HGB from three decades are brought together and placed in relation to one another. In addition, texts by Julia Blume, Angela Krauß, Panja Lange, Marc Ries and Christoph Türcke open up different perspectives on the life and work of Helfried Strauß as a student, teacher, colleague, photographer and friend.
 By turning the publication between image and text sections, a distinction is made between viewing and reading. The book object demands physical experience and enables an intensification of the gaze when turning the pages.
