Graphic and Exhibition Design for Exhibition "You Wanna Rap?" at KV Leipzig:
What is Rap? Music that originated in the Bronx in the 1970s? A practice created by Black people for self-empowerment under adverse circumstances? A successful pop culture that is produced and consumed worldwide?
The exhibition "You Wanna Rap?" does not provide definitive answers to these questions. Rather, it shows how artists deal with identities, media, and art forms in the context of rap. Rap appears here as a field in which music, image, video, and fashion overlap. In the process, the boundaries between pop culture and institutional art seem to blur: on the one hand, freely available works by rappers circulate on streaming platforms, while on the other, there are unique pieces from the visual arts.
